It is amazing how it as changed the habits for watch tv. Until a short time ago, the tv it was the center of attention of my family, it was global information, entertainment and the fonts of the theme of conversation.  Nevertheless, there is a great change. Today, the tv is only an display more, it is not necessary waiting the programming day for an specific TV show, now only is search in the web, it is immediately.  Watching tv has changed from the community experience to the individual experience.

An Series of TV show that we enjoy in family is LOST, it was a tv show about an group of the parsons, passenger of the airplane that crashed in the mystery island. The characters are very different, one the hero is jack, an doctor constantly tormented for the memory about you authoritarian father dead. Jack take the leading role, you mission self-imposed is save life of the all. Your female friend is Kate, one god person, nevertheless she is was an convicted, before the accident. Between the others characters, is important James, an god male that is effort for appear bad kid.  The story is to look for a way out of the island.

Post 4: Someone I would like to meet

It would be Interesting to ask ourselves who person famous we would be know. In my case,  I would have liked to talk with an famous scientific, Sir Alfred Wallace, nevertheless he lived in the XIX Century and died beginning of the XX century. Wallace was a Naturalist, coauthor of evolution theory with the famous Charles Darwin. Wallace was English, father of Biogeography. He was study about  the Malay archipelago and  explored the Amazonas Jungle in South America. When he was explorer young, He Conceived the evolution theory for natural selection in parallel way of Darwin.  Darwin  Impressed for coincidence, he offered publishing the idea for both.  Nevertheless, few remember him. Wallace also was an believer in life after the death, He wanted connect with world spirituals for scientific middles, he was spiritualist together with other famous persons, for example, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Post 3: My Favorite Movie

It is very difficult to choose only one movie as my favourite movie. There are at least two important films in my life: the first is the “Quest For Fire”, the movie was set in the Pleistocene Age, recount the story about an group Neanderthals at an expedition in mission to obtain fire, the fire  was the difference between life or death… in a full of dangerous adventures, one of the protagonist is in love with an Homo sapiens girls, it is a metaphor about the mixture in our origins.

The second film and probably my most favourite one is Jurassic Park, it is a thriller of the science fiction about biotechnology, paleontology and beautiful dinosaurs, the movie is based on the book of the same name, of author Michael Crichton. The story is about an experimental and peculiar funny park in an island in Central America, in the island thanks to the genetic engineering,  an eccentric Millionaire is accomplished revive to real dinosaurs. My favourite parts is when in scene the first dinosaurs showed, a giant Dinosaurs of the long neck of name Brachiosaurus. I wouldn't change anything to this movie, nevertheless of the sequels changed all, they are trashy.       

Post 2: The Best Concert ever

The  Silvio Rodriguez Concert in Chile. 

Hi, I will talk about the best concert of music of my life, I refer to the live performance of Silvio Rodriguez in National Stadium in 1990. I was only 13 years old, ever life for future, with hope and dreams, recently the dictatorship is finish and all my family where very happy. the arrival of  Silvio  songs are evidence of new democracy, are massive what little time before is prohibited. To concert I went with my oldest brother,  six years more than me. Not were only an concert, were an political meeting, also an party and very moments of reflection and memory. With my brother sang all songs. The more moving moments are the remember Victor Jara, song murder victim for the dictatorship, are strange sensations, an great silence and rollicking at the same time.  A lot of time had past for be together...

Silvio en Chile

Post 1 A country I would like to vist

My dream is visiting South Africa, because I like the wild animals, the big animals such as elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus and the great cats among others.

 I want to look at them in the natural environment. I imagine that their parks are real prehistoric live museum.

 I would participate to scientific expedition in zoology and paleontology, because my specialty is the vertebral paleontologist, it is interesting  that in the past the megafaunal has lived in Chile and South America,  elephants and tiger saber tooth  lived here ... go a South Africa is like a trip to the past, an Lost World...

Also, I Would like to visit the great valley of Rift in  Kenya, it is known as the cradle of the humanity,   important fossils have been found  such Australopithecus and Homo habilis.

Finally I hope to go to Africa and  travel to for jungles, deserts and discover the origins of the our humanity.

My opinion about the use of blogs in the English class

I like to write a blog It was interesting to try to write in English, a language that is very difficult for me.

The chosen themes were very interesting. One of the I liked the most was the interview with my girlfriend. It was a game, but it was also serious.

I liked writing about paleontology and issues related to my career, I hope to improve the writing.

I take this opportunity to thank Professor Lucas for his effort to teach in the best way, always his classes were very enjoy.

I think I have improved reading and writing, however my biggest weakness is pronunciation and listening and understanding a conversation in English.

Well, a hug, I hope we can meet again.

A career related article

I have read an article in the "Santiago Times". is about the discovered biggest ever dinosaur, the size is the 38 meters of long, as big as a commercial airplane.

It was discovered in Patagonia and studied by argentines paleontologist.  They have named dinosaur Patagotitan mayorum. it was extra-large sauropod that lived around 100 million years ago.

I was aware of the discovery of this dinosaur. An Argentine friend named Pablo Puerta helped dig and study, he told me that the size of his fossil femur is much bigger than him, is impressive. Although I must say Pablo is small, but without a doubt the dinosaur was gigantic.

In Chile, fossils of sauropods have also been discovered, for example, a vertebra in Pichasca, near the city of Ovalle. But, there are very few bones. Although many fossil tracks of these animals have been found, the marks of these dinosaurs that walked in the mud today petrified. Places with footprints fossils, for example, Termas del Flaco and the sand valley in the Cajón del Maipo.

I am an archeology student and I live in Santiago de Chile. 

My city has very interesting places in the subject. For example, the Santa Lucía hill, a very important hill for the indigenous population.

And his history of human occupation, precedes the Incas and the Mapuches.

However, I will not talk about archeology. I will talk about paleontology, my passion and specialty.

Paleontology in Santiago City

Paleontology is the science of past life. From the geological past.

Their means are the study of the fossil record of animals and plants.

In the Metropolitan Region there are several findings.

For example, in Peñalolen and Conchali were found mega beasts, Megatherium and Scelidotherium, two giant Grounds Sloths. Extinct animals of very large size. These are relatives of the famous Mylodon, and of Sid the character in the movie The Ice Age

In Pudahuel, near the airport, the fossil bones of the prehistoric elephant were discovered, its name is Gomphothere. Scientists think that the first human settlers hunted him

Every picture tells a story

Hello, today I am going to talk about an image that I very like.
Is an Photo in the Monturaqui, a crater formed by the impact of a meteorite in the
Atacama desert in the north of Chile. The Meteorite  would have fallen a few 660 thousand years ago.

We take the picture during a travel for the shot a documentary film about the natural history of Chile.

The impact crater of Monturaqui is beatifull and shuddering. Imagine a rock crashing with the earth in Hipervelocity, free energy equivalent to two hiroshimas bomb.  It seems science fiction, but is real.

Chile keeps many geological treasures, for example this Monturaqui, an Shooting Star has lasted thousands of years not in the skies, but in the sand. When I was there, I made a wish... I suppose it will take time to be fulfilled.

A movie that I like and a movie that I hate

My favorite movie is "The Day of the Beast", it is a 1995 Spanish film, by director Alex de la Iglesia. I like it a lot because it's an excellent mix of fiction, comedy and horror. The story is about a priest, a death metal fanatic and a mentalist and the attempt to avoid the birth of the antichrist. Despite the low production budget, "The Day of the Beast" has become not only a critically acclaimed film, but also a classic of spanich cinema.

Of the films I most hate this first one is "Transformer", a science fiction film, directed by Michael Bay in 2007. I hate because they ruined a series of cartoons that I loved. The film is a very bad story, with terrible actors and actresses, for the director the appearance of the beautiful and sexy woman is an easy resource, with very predictable scenes where the show and the special effects matter more than an interesting story.

The perfect song

In my opinion, the perfect song is one that speaks of the deepest and truest feelings. An example of a perfect song is "Your ghost" by singer and author of Cuban nationality Silvio Rodriguez. In this song the singer talks about a love that went away and that he misses, compares the memory of his beloved with that of a ghost, because although his body is not his continuous presence. This song is also beautiful because the music of the guitar that accompanies it has sounds of nostalgia and melancholy.

I like the metaphors of the song, for example: "the kitchen key still bleeds and I still do not have songs when there is a need". These lyrics speak of everyday situations that reflect the pain and loneliness felt by the singer due to the absence of an vital love.

We have all felt nostalgia, we dream of a person who returns from the past, but we know that it is impossible, it is a truth forever, like death...

My favorite piece of technology

Hi, I'm going to talk about my favorite piece of technology: my phone Galaxy Note 8.

I have this model less than a year ago. But before, I had all the previous models, with the exception of Galaxy Note 7, because the phone exploded.

My Galaxy is very useful. I use it for almost everything, for example, I can draw and write freehand. It is also an entertainment center, i see movies and videos on netflix and youtube, I also listen to music on Spotify. Actually, it is an excellent tool for communication and to keep up with the news.

Today my work depends on my Galaxy Note 8. My work life would be complicated without her, since my phone is my mobile office.

Now the new Galaxy Note 9 will be presented, I want it, but it is very expensive.

Interview

Today I will talk with Romi, my best friend and my girlfriend for eight years old. This is a real interview, I am very nervous about yours answers.

Pablo: Hi, Romi! How are you?

Romi: fine, thank you

Pablo: You were born in 1986 and you grew up in the 90s. What do you remember about your childhood?

Romi: I remember my parents and little brother, I also remember that I was going to  play with my friends, and to talk about cartoons.

Pablo: What cartoons do you remember?

Romi: I remember Candy, it was very good and, but sad. My favorite was is Bob Sponge, it's really fun.

Pablo: What can you tell me about your adolescence?

Romi: It was a very good moment, because I did many activities, that made me happy.

Pablo: What activities?

Romi: I practiced roller skating and community service in the church.

Pablo: You are a history teacher, however, today you study geography. Why do you go back to the university for a second career?

Romi: It's very simple answer, the reason for returning is a love of earth science and everything about it.

Pablo: How do you imagine your future?

Romi: I think we will be happy with you and we will see our children grow.

Pablo: Soon we will build a nice house on the hill. How do you imagine that house?

Romi: I imagine a little house made of wood and stones, full of flowers and birds. and you?

Pablo: My dream is a house with you, our house. You know, I want a garden full of lizards. I love you, Romi.

Romi: Me too.

New Chile

We are in a new epoch, the globalization shows us a closer world, through the social networks, we are outraged by the injustices in any part of the globe. But, the world is very unfair right here! the racism and segregation is the usual. In Chile and in the world, the women have been discriminated along the history. Today  the change starts through the manifestations of the girls and women. This is very good news for me. I have a daughter and I hope a better future for her, in which she feels she has all the opportunities and has no limits. A school, university and job for  to her dreams, in definitive a family and country more safe and will an best place for her.  

My dream

Hi, since very young  wanted to a be a scientific and explorer,   I loved dinosaurs  and in general all the giant monsters. When I knew  that  the dinosaurs are the real extinct animal… I was amazed and I wanted to be a paleontologist.  When I was in highschool , I joined scientific young team of the Natural History Museum.  

When I finished school, I chose to study biology in the University of Chile, However, I changed an archeology program two years later. Today,   my work and studies are in vertebrate paleontologist, especially great extinct mammals that coexists with firsts humans of the America. I love my work.

My name is Pablo

I study Archaeology at the University of Chile and work in paleontology.

My specialty is vertebral paleontology, I' m interested in the cetacean evolution and diversity.

My work is about the  fossil record of the miocene period in Chile. In the cost of the Atacama Region there are beautiful fossils of the whales and dolphins with an antiquity of the 8 million years old. The paleontological site is close to the Bahia Inglesa beach, here is my location of the study.
